The World Bank’s Country Director, Mr. Najy Benhassine, told Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Special Assistant on Climate Change that the Bank will provide full financial and technical support to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s various green initiatives, particularly the Green Stimulus initiative, for environmental conservation and security as well as enhanced disaster resilience.
Meanwhile, both sides pledged to work together to battle the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic’s global health catastrophe and global warming on many socioeconomic sectors.
During the meeting at the climate change ministry, Najy Benhassine, the country director, informed the PM’s aide that funding of US $120 million pledged for Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Green Stimulus initiative has already been approved and can be used by the country to increase green employment for those who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 crisis.
“It is truly inspiring that, despite limited financial resources, Pakistan launched a green stimulus initiative under the Clean Green Program, which has resulted in the creation of thousands of green jobs for those who have been rendered jobless as a result of the pandemic,” said the World Bank president.
He also mentioned that the World Bank’s management is very impressed with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision for a Clean Green Pakistan and the various green projects that have been launched as a result of that vision, particularly one of the most ambitious 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Programs in the world (TBTTP).
