Proposal to Change Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Name, Here’s What It Might Be Called

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar announced that discussions are underway regarding the increase in Balochistan’s parliamentary seats and renaming Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to “Pukhtunkhwa.”

Speaking to the media, the law minister stated that work on nearly all clauses of the constitutional amendment bill has been completed, while deliberations continue on some recently proposed suggestions.

He confirmed that the government is considering proposals put forward by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP). The joint parliamentary session was adjourned temporarily to allow political parties to consult with their respective leaderships.

Azam Nazeer Tarar further revealed that following instructions from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the proposal for granting immunity to the Prime Minister has been withdrawn. He added that discussions have taken place on increasing Balochistan’s representation and officially renaming Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as “Pukhtunkhwa.”

He also said that MQM’s proposal for granting complete autonomy to local governments was discussed in detail. Moreover, the Punjab Assembly’s resolution related to local governance was also taken into consideration.

The minister noted that both the issues of local government empowerment and the Punjab Assembly’s resolution would require further time for review and consultation before a final decision is reached.
