Providing Cheap Electricity Government’s Top Priority: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

PM Shehbaz Sharif has announced that a national solar energy policy will be announced on the first of next month to address energy-related issues.

Chairing an energy working group Thursday in Islamabad, he said implementation of the policy would be subject to Common Interest Council approval Shehbaz Sharif said PM House and Office would switch to solar power within a month in case of emergency.

The PM said that providing cheap and environmentally friendly electricity was the government’s top priority. He said we aspire to make Pakistan self-sufficient in the energy sector.

Additionally, he highlighted the benefits of solar energy, saying it is a clean and environmentally friendly source of electricity generation.

He said harnessing solar power will help solve problems such as distribution losses, energy theft and circulation debt.

The Assembly was informed about the country’s measures to promote solar energy. The Assembly reported that a proposal to convert fuel-fired power plants to solar energy is being considered.

The Assembly was also told that a proposal for solar power generation on 2000 11 kV feeders would also be considered.
