PTA Approves PTCL’s $400 Million Deal to Take Control of Telenor Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially approved PTCL’s $400 million deal to acquire Telenor Pakistan, granting the company a formal no-objection certificate (NOC) to proceed with the merger.

This transaction will bring together PTCL’s mobile brand Ufone and Telenor Pakistan, creating the country’s second-largest mobile operator.

The regulator conducted a detailed review of the deal, assessing its potential impact on market competition and consumer interests.

PTA emphasized that, despite the merger, both companies must maintain high service standards, adhere to licensing obligations, and ensure uninterrupted connectivity for customers.

The authority also stated it will closely monitor the integration process to prevent any negative effects on competition.

Analysts suggest that combining resources will allow PTCL and Telenor to operate more efficiently in a telecom sector that faces rising operational costs and heavy regulatory compliance pressures.

For consumers, the merger could mean faster network upgrades and the introduction of innovative services, as the combined entity leverages both operators’ strengths.

Industry experts believe this move could intensify competition with Jazz, Pakistan’s largest mobile network, pushing all operators to improve service and pricing.

With PTA’s approval, PTCL is now set to take formal control of Telenor Pakistan and begin integrating the two networks and services in the coming months.
