PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman Elected Chairman of South Asian Telecom Regulator’s Council

Pakistan has achieved another milestone in the field of telecommunications as Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), has been unanimously elected Chairman of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC).

The announcement was made at the 26th SATRC meeting, which began on November 5 in Islamabad. The event is hosted by PTA in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and brings together telecom regulators, policymakers, and industry leaders from across South Asia.

The three-day conference aims to promote regional cooperation, digital innovation, and sustainable ICT growth among member countries. Discussions are focused on improving digital connectivity, 5G readiness, cybersecurity, and the expansion of affordable internet access across South Asia.

In his remarks, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman expressed gratitude for the trust placed in Pakistan’s leadership and reaffirmed PTA’s commitment to supporting inclusive and technology-driven development in the region. He emphasized that South Asian nations must work together to overcome digital divides and accelerate technological progress for all citizens.

The election of Pakistan’s PTA Chairman as head of SATRC highlights the country’s growing influence in regional telecom policymaking. It also reflects Pakistan’s dedication to fostering collaboration and innovation in the digital economy.

The SATRC-26 conference will continue until November 7, with delegates exploring strategies to build a digitally connected and resilient South Asia.
