PTA recently held a consultation to discuss its new framework for registering VPNs, aiming to create a more secure environment for Pakistan’s IT and e-commerce industries.
As part of this initiative, the PTA introduced an online portal that allows businesses, freelancers, and other users to easily register their VPNs. This step is intended to support smoother and more secure online operations, especially for those relying on VPNs for work.
During the session, the PTA also addressed concerns about issues with VPN usage in recent months. They clarified that the disruptions were not due to any throttling of VPN services but rather a “technical glitch.” This explanation helped ease worries and allowed businesses to better understand the purpose of the registration framework.
The new VPN registration system is part of Pakistan’s broader goal to support its growing digital economy while also keeping national security in mind. By encouraging responsible VPN use, the PTA aims to prevent misuse that could pose security risks while ensuring legitimate users can continue their work without interruptions.
