PTA has issued a warning to citizens regarding the potential risks associated with purchasing new or used smartphones. This advisory aims to help people avoid fraud and ensure their safety when buying mobile devices.
In a recent announcement, the PTA emphasized the importance of purchasing smartphones from trustworthy sources. They recommended that buyers always check for a warranty and avoid suspiciously low prices for expensive devices. The authority advised individuals to only buy box-packed smartphones and to confirm that the PTA stamp is present on the packaging.
To ensure the authenticity of the smartphone, the PTA urged consumers to verify that the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number on the box matches the one on the phone itself. “It is essential to check the PTA stamp in front of the shopkeeper and to ensure that the IMEI numbers are identical,” stated the PTA.
The authority also provided resources for consumers to verify their phones. Buyers can check their device’s IMEI number through the PTA’s official website at dirbs.pta.gov.pk or by sending a text with the IMEI number to 8484. Additionally, the PTA mentioned the availability of the Device Verification System (DVS) app for further assistance.
As consumers navigate the smartphone market, the PTA’s guidance serves as a crucial reminder to prioritize safety and authenticity in their purchasing decisions.
