The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) historically employed biometric verification to issue SIM cards; however, in light of the increasing number of bogus SIM card issuance, the PTA is considering upgrading to Live Finger Detection (LFC) devices.
According to authorities, bogus SIM cards have become a major challenge for Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
According to PTA authorities, around 300,000 SIM biometric centres will replace biometric verification with LFD devices.
During the first phase, mobile service providers began verifying SIM cards with LFD devices in the majority of sites.
