Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken a major step to protect the environment by announcing an immediate ban on cutting trees in forests and on the auctioning of timber across the province.
The decision, announced on Wednesday, also suspends the old timber auction system that has been in place for years. This move is aimed at stopping deforestation, which has been a serious threat to Punjab’s natural resources.
Maryam Nawaz has also instructed the concerned departments to prepare new rules for forest management. She directed that modern technology, such as digital mapping, should be used to carefully monitor and protect forest areas.
Officials explained that this policy is not only about stopping tree cutting but also about creating a sustainable system that ensures forests are preserved for the long term. The government’s initiative is meant to protect the environment, reduce the harmful effects of climate change, and make sure that future generations can benefit from Punjab’s green landscapes.
