Punjab Govt Plans Rs. 1.14 Billion for 108 New Vehicles for Officials

The Punjab government is planning to buy 108 new vehicles this fiscal year, with an estimated cost of Rs. 1.14 billion. The vehicles are intended for ministers, senior officials, and inspection teams to support their official duties.

The proposal, which has been submitted to the provincial cabinet, outlines specific allocations for different categories of officials.

It includes 28 cars for cabinet members, two bulletproof 4×4 vehicles for ministers, and 25 vehicles dedicated to VIP security. The remaining vehicles will be used by various departments for inspections and official transportation.

According to officials, the purchase is considered necessary to ensure smooth operations and maintain security for high-ranking personnel.

They argue that updated vehicles will help officials travel safely and efficiently, particularly when carrying out inspections, attending official meetings, or performing other government-related tasks.

The cabinet’s approval is required before the procurement process can begin. Once approved, the government will initiate the process of selecting vendors and acquiring the vehicles.

Officials have stated that the decision follows standard procedures and is aimed at improving administrative efficiency rather than personal luxury.

While the plan has sparked discussions regarding its cost, government representatives emphasize that the investment is meant to enhance security and operational capacity across departments.

With modern and reliable vehicles, ministers, senior officials, and inspection teams are expected to perform their duties more effectively.

The government has also assured that the procurement process will follow transparency and accountability measures to ensure proper use of public funds. The decision now rests with the provincial cabinet for final approval before purchases move forward.
