Punjab to Issue Honorary Cards to Mosque Imams for Monthly Stipend

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a new plan to issue special “Imam Masjid” cards to mosque imams across the province.

These cards will allow eligible imams to receive a monthly stipend from the government. The system is set to begin on January 1, 2026, and the first payments will officially be released in February 2026.

According to the government, this initiative aims to support imams who play an important role in guiding communities, teaching religious values, and leading prayers.

Many imams in smaller towns and villages have limited income, so the stipend is meant to help them manage their basic needs with dignity.

So far, more than 62,000 registration forms have been submitted by imams from different districts of Punjab.

The verification process is currently underway to ensure that only genuine and eligible applicants receive the benefit. Officials say that the process includes checking each imam’s identity, mosque affiliation, and service record.

However, the government has also made it clear that the stipend will only be given to those who follow the guidelines.

If an imam is found involved in any activity that goes against national interests, social harmony, or public morals, their card and benefits will be cancelled immediately. This condition has been added to ensure that religious platforms are used responsibly and positively.

The Punjab administration believes that this step will not only improve the financial situation of imams but also strengthen the relationship between mosques and local communities. Many citizens have welcomed the decision, expecting it to bring stability and recognition to mosque leadership across the province.
