Punjab Underwater! Floods Hit 1,400 Villages, Impacting Over 1.2 Million People

Severe flooding in the Chenab, Sutlej, and Ravi rivers has caused widespread destruction across Punjab, damaging nearly 1,400 villages and forcing more than 1.2 million people to leave their homes. The Chenab River has been the hardest hit, submerging 991 villages and affecting about 769,000 people. The Ravi River flooded 80 villages, displacing around 75,000 people, while the Sutlej River overwhelmed 361 villages, forcing nearly 393,000 people to move to safer areas.

The floods have also created serious challenges for farmers and livestock owners. More than 148,000 animals had to be relocated to safe places, and authorities have established 234 animal treatment camps to provide medical care and support.

Officials warn that the situation remains extremely dangerous, with river levels still rising. The Chenab alone has reached a flow of over 996,000 cusecs, a level considered highly alarming. Flood authorities have stressed that the next 12 to 48 hours will be crucial, as the risk of further flooding remains very high.

Rescue and evacuation operations are continuing across the affected regions, with teams working to move people out of danger and provide relief to communities who have lost their homes and livelihoods.
