Russian President Putin paid a visit to the city of Derbent in the Dagestan region of Russia. During his visit, he discussed the varying perspectives on the desecration of the Quran, the holy book of Muslims. President Putin highlighted that while some countries do not consider it a crime, Russia views it as an offense punishable by law, as stated in the country’s Constitution and penal code.
As part of his visit, President Putin went to a historic mosque in Derbent and had the opportunity to meet with Muslim representatives from Dagestan. During the meeting, the Muslim representatives presented President Putin with a gift—a copy of the Quran—as they celebrated the religious holiday of Eid-al-Adha. President Putin expressed his appreciation and thanked the representatives for the thoughtful gesture.
