Rain in Karachi Caused Around Rs.15 Billion Losses for Traders in Just Two Days

Karachi has been badly affected after two straight days of heavy rain, which have caused major problems for the city and its people. According to reports, businesses in the city have suffered losses of nearly Rs15 billion because markets could not operate as usual.

Many streets were completely flooded, while sewage water overflowed onto the roads, making it impossible for people to move around. Power outages added to the crisis, leaving several areas of the city without electricity for long hours. In fact, some neighborhoods, including Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Jauhar, remained without power for more than 26 hours.

Shops and markets had to close because of the situation. Traders faced many difficulties, such as goods being damaged by rainwater, repairing their shops after the water entered, and dealing with workers who could not come to work because of the citywide holiday and dangerous conditions on the roads.

The continuous rainfall has not only disrupted trade but also highlighted the fragile condition of Karachi’s infrastructure. With flooded streets, overflowing drains, and long power failures, life in the city has come to a standstill for many residents and businesses.
