Millions of devout Muslims gathered at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah on the sacred 27th night of Ramadan, fervently seeking the divine blessings of Laylat Al-Qadr, a night of immense spiritual significance.
The Grand Mosque witnessed an unprecedented turnout, setting a new record with over 4.2 million worshipers coming together in unity to perform the special Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers, seeking mercy, forgiveness, and divine rewards.
To ensure a smooth and seamless experience for all worshipers, authorities meticulously managed crowd control and logistical operations. The Mataf area—where pilgrims perform Tawaf (circumambulation) around the Kaaba—was carefully prepared to accommodate an astonishing 107,000 pilgrims per hour.
Additionally, the mosque’s extensive facilities were fully optimized to enhance accessibility and comfort. This included the operation of 428 escalators and 28 elevators, ensuring ease of movement for the vast number of worshipers. A state-of-the-art audio system, featuring 1,300 high-quality speakers, was utilized to deliver the beautiful recitation of prayers and Quranic verses across the sacred mosque.
To maintain a cool and comfortable environment amid the large congregation, an advanced cooling system with a capacity of 90,000 tons was activated. Furthermore, medical centers and health facilities were on standby to provide immediate care and assistance to those in need.
Laylat Al-Qadr, revered as “better than a thousand months,” holds a deeply special place in Islamic tradition and is eagerly sought during the final ten nights of Ramadan, with particular emphasis on the 27th night. Worshipers spend this sacred time in prayer, reflection, and supplication, seeking divine mercy, guidance, and immense spiritual rewards.
