Rs. 23.84 Billion Approved for Dualization of Rawalpindi-Kahuta Road, Connecting Rawalpindi to Azad Kashmir

The government has officially included the dualisation of the Pindi-Kahuta Road in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the year 2025–26. This major infrastructure project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Rawalpindi and Kahuta, cutting it down to just 40 minutes.

The project is worth Rs. 23.84 billion and includes several key developments. One of the major components is the construction of a four-lane overhead bridge at the Sihala Railway Gate, which is known for heavy traffic congestion. In addition, bypass roads will be built in both Sihala and Kahuta to help ease traffic flow and improve safety.

The upgraded road will stretch over a distance of 28.4 kilometers, making it easier for people to travel between Rawalpindi and the surrounding areas, including Azad Kashmir. This route is not only important for local commuters but also for people traveling to other key regions in northern Pakistan.

For many years, the Pindi-Kahuta Road has suffered from traffic jams, poor road conditions, and frequent accidents. The dualisation project aims to solve these problems by improving the overall structure and capacity of the road.

The project will be managed by the National Highway Authority (NHA) and is expected to be completed on a fast-track basis. This development follows the approval of the project by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in 2023.
