The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia has introduced a new initiative allowing marriage contracts (nikah) to take place at Islam’s two holiest sites – the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah. This decision aims to enhance the experiences of pilgrims and visitors to these sacred places.
Seen as a unique opportunity for innovation, companies are anticipated to develop creative ideas to organize such events within the holy sites. Musaed Al-Jabri, a Saudi mazoun (marriage official), highlighted that conducting marriage contracts at the Prophet’s Mosque aligns with Islamic principles.
He pointed out that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had conducted a companion’s nuptial rite at the mosque, emphasizing the historical and religious significance of the initiative.
