Motorcyclist Banned on all Flyovers in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi Police has implemented a ban on motorcycles from accessing all flyovers as a precautionary measure during the Basant festival to prevent potential accidents or incidents.

During the Basant celebrations in Punjab, various safety measures have been put in place due to concerns about injuries caused by kite strings.

Rawalpindi Police specified that flyovers along Murree Road, Airport Road, and other areas have been closed off to motorcyclists. Additionally, several individuals engaged in aerial firing during the Basant festivities were apprehended by Rawalpindi police across different parts of the city.

Law enforcement officials in Rawalpindi are actively pursuing actions against individuals involved in unlawful activities associated with the Basant festival. Numerous individuals have been taken into custody from various locations within the city.

Both police and district administration teams are diligently working to ensure peace and maintain law and order throughout the province, affirmed the local administration.

Earlier, the Punjab police forwarded a recommendation to the provincial government to enhance penalties for kite-flying offenses in the region, proposing imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of Rs2 million.

The recommendation includes stricter penalties for those found manufacturing kites and preparing thread with prohibited materials. Offenders involved in such activities would face a significant increase in both imprisonment duration and fines compared to previous regulations.

Previously, a bill was also proposed in the National Assembly, advocating for a complete prohibition on kite-flying in the federal capital.
