Saudi Arabia has introduced a new soft drink called Milaf Cola, which is being described as the world’s first soda made from high-quality dates. The drink was developed by Thurath Al-Madina, a company owned by the Public Investment Fund, and it was officially launched at the Riyadh Date Festival.
What makes Milaf Cola different from regular soft drinks is that it does not contain added sugar. Instead, it uses the natural sweetness found in dates. Dates are a traditional and popular fruit in Saudi Arabia, and they are known for their rich taste and nutritional value. By using dates, the company aims to offer a healthier option compared to traditional sodas that usually contain large amounts of refined sugar.
The launch of Milaf Cola is also connected to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan. This national strategy focuses on strengthening local industries, supporting innovation, and reducing reliance on oil by diversifying the economy. By turning a traditional local product like dates into a modern beverage, the project highlights Saudi Arabia’s efforts to combine heritage with new business opportunities.
