Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has suspended contracts with 1,800 foreign Umrah travel agencies after finding that they did not meet required performance and service standards.
The decision is part of ongoing efforts by the ministry to improve services for pilgrims and ensure quality in the Umrah sector.
The suspension affects a large number of agencies out of roughly 5,800 currently operating in the Umrah travel industry.
However, it only applies to the issuance of new Umrah visas. Pilgrims who already have valid visas or confirmed bookings will not be affected, ensuring that existing travel plans remain uninterrupted.
The ministry has given the suspended agencies a period of 10 days to correct deficiencies and improve their services.
Agencies that meet the required standards during this time may have their contracts reinstated, while those that fail to comply may face further action, including permanent removal from the sector.
Officials emphasized that the ministry is strengthening its monitoring and evaluation of Umrah agencies to protect the rights of pilgrims and maintain confidence in the services provided. This includes regular inspections, performance reviews, and stricter enforcement of regulations.
