Shawwal Moon Sighting! Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to Meet Today

The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has announced a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to sight the Shawwal moon. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 19, 2026, which is the 29th day of Ramadan 1447 AH.

It will take place at Kohsar Block in the Pak Secretariat, Islamabad, and will be chaired by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad.

At the same time, zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also hold meetings across the country. These committees will gather information about moon sightings from different regions to help make a final decision. Citizens are encouraged to report any confirmed moon sightings to their local committees so the information can be properly reviewed.

After collecting all reports, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will carefully examine both eyewitness accounts and technical data before making an official announcement. This announcement will determine whether Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated the next day or if Ramadan will continue for another day.

According to SUPARCO, there is a possibility that the moon may not be easily visible this time. Experts have explained that the moon will be very young at sunset, which can make it difficult to sight with the naked eye. Weather conditions may also affect visibility in different areas.

Because of this, the final decision will depend on both scientific analysis and verified public reports. The nation now awaits the committee’s announcement to confirm the date of Eid.
