Sindh Private Schools Reject Govt Decision to Close Schools

Several private schools’ associations in Sindh have raised concerns and expressed strong reservations after the provincial cabinet decided to close schools and colleges for two weeks due to the ongoing fuel crisis. The decision, which was announced as part of broader energy conservation measures, has sparked criticism from representatives of private educational institutions who fear the move could disrupt academic activities and affect students’ learning progress.

According to reports, the Sindh government introduced the temporary closure in an effort to reduce fuel consumption and manage resources during the current crisis. Authorities believe that limiting transportation and daily institutional operations could help ease pressure on fuel supplies. However, many private school operators argue that such decisions should be made after thorough consultation with education stakeholders to ensure that the academic calendar and students’ preparation for examinations are not negatively impacted.

The Private Schools’ Management Association (PSMA) has formally urged the Sindh government to reconsider the decision or explore alternative measures that would allow educational institutions to continue operating while still supporting energy conservation efforts. Representatives from the association stated that sudden closures create uncertainty for schools, teachers, and students, particularly at a time when many institutions are already working to complete syllabi and prepare students for upcoming assessments.

School administrators have also highlighted concerns regarding disruptions to the academic session and the potential challenges students may face in completing their coursework within the scheduled timeframe. They believe that prolonged interruptions in classroom learning could affect overall academic performance and place additional pressure on both teachers and students once schools reopen.

The association further called on the provincial government to engage with representatives from the private education sector before implementing decisions that directly impact educational institutions. They emphasized the importance of balancing emergency measures with the need to maintain stability in the education system.
