Sri Lanka Cricket Board Sacked Over World Cup Performance

Sri Lanka’s sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe removed the entire national cricket board from their positions due to the team’s poor performance in the World Cup.

Despite having a match against Bangladesh later in the day, Sri Lanka faces a tough challenge to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament.

The decision to dismiss the cricket board comes after months of disagreements between Ranasinghe and Sri Lanka Cricket. There have been allegations of widespread corruption within the organization.

According to an official statement, Arjuna Ranatunga, the captain who led Sri Lanka to victory in the 1996 World Cup, has been appointed as the chairman of the newly formed interim board. This interim board comprises seven members, including a retired supreme court judge and a former board president.

This change happened after the board’s secretary, Mohan de Silva, resigned, and following Sri Lanka’s heavy 302-run loss to India, which led to public anger and protests outside the board office in Colombo.
