Storm Alert! Rain & Hail Expected Across Pakistan

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and possible hail across northern and central parts of Pakistan from April 12 to 17, 2026.

According to the NDMA, a western weather system is moving into Pakistan. This will bring periods of rain to many areas in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). Along with the rain, there can be thunderstorms, sudden strong winds, and dust storms in some places. In a few areas, hailstorms are also possible.

In Punjab, rain is expected in cities like Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Murree, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore, and surrounding areas. Similar conditions are forecast in KP districts, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Peshawar. Mountainous parts of AJK and GB will also get wet weather with a chance of snow on peaks.

Sindh and Balochistan are likely to stay mostly hot and dry with no major rain expected during this period.

Authorities have warned that strong winds, lightning, and heavy rain could cause problems. These include damage to weak structures, uprooting of trees, disruption of electricity supply, and road accidents.

The NDMA has asked provincial and district authorities to stay on high alert. People living in vulnerable areas should secure loose objects and follow official weather updates.

This spell of rain may bring relief from rising spring temperatures but could also affect daily life, farming activities, and tourism in northern areas. Farmers are advised to protect standing crops from hail and strong winds. While the rain is welcome after dry weather, safety must come first during this stormy period.
