SUPARCO Shares Expected Date of Eidul- Fitr Ahead of Moon Sighting

SUPARCO has announced its estimated date for Eidul Fitr 2025, using astronomical data to make its prediction. While the official decision will be made after the traditional moon sighting by the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, SUPARCO’s forecast suggests that Eidul Fitr is likely to be celebrated on Monday, March 31, 2025.

According to SUPARCO, the Shawwal crescent is expected to be visible in Pakistan on Sunday, March 30, marking the end of Ramadan after 29 days of fasting. The agency used advanced astronomical models to determine the visibility of the crescent moon, providing an early estimate for citizens planning their celebrations.

In neighboring Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries, the chances of moon visibility on March 29 are reportedly low due to the crescent’s young age, making a simultaneous Eid celebration with Pakistan likely.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also supported this prediction, citing favorable conditions for moon visibility on March 30. However, the final confirmation will come from the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee’s observations.

To accommodate the Eid festivities, the federal government has declared a three-day public holiday from March 31 to April 2, 2025. Additionally, Pakistan Railways has announced the operation of four special trains to facilitate travel for people returning to their hometowns for the occasion.

Eidul Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, is celebrated with prayers, family gatherings, and festive meals. While SUPARCO’s estimates offer a helpful guideline, the traditional sighting of the crescent remains a key part of the cultural and religious significance of Eid celebrations.
