Mojtaba Khamenei has said during his first national address after taking the country’s top leadership role that his father, Ali Khamenei, was killed on the 10th day of Ramadan while reciting the Quran.
In the speech, Mojtaba Khamenei described his father’s death as martyrdom and said it happened during a time of rising conflict in the region. He said the loss had deeply affected the nation and called on the Iranian people to remain patient and united.
The new leader also said that the ongoing war would continue. He promised revenge for those he described as martyrs and said Iran would stand firm against what he called its enemies.
Ali Khamenei had been one of the most influential figures in Iran’s political and religious system for decades. His leadership shaped the country’s policies both at home and abroad.
