Sybil Sohail Makes History as First Pakistani Woman to Win Gold at Asian Weightlifting Championship

Sybil Sohail has made history by becoming the first Pakistani woman to win a gold medal at the Asian Weightlifting Masters Championship held in Doha, Qatar.

Originally a powerlifter, Sybil recently stepped into the world of weightlifting and made an incredible debut. She competed in the 59kg category and lifted a total of 95kg, 40kg in the snatch and 55kg in the clean and jerk to claim the top position.

This was her first international appearance as a weightlifter, and it turned out to be a golden one. Before switching sports, Sybil was already known as a Commonwealth Powerlifting Champion and had a strong record in that field. Her success in Doha adds a new chapter to her journey.

Speaking from Doha, the 31-year-old said, “My goal was always to raise Pakistan’s flag at an international event. We’ve worked hard and made many sacrifices for this moment, and I’m proud it has finally paid off.”

Sybil dedicated her victory to her family and country, emphasizing how much they have supported her through her journey. She hopes this achievement will inspire other women in Pakistan to follow their dreams, no matter the challenges.

Her story is one of dedication, strength, and national pride. Winning gold on her international debut is a proud moment for both Sybil and Pakistan, especially in a sport where women have limited representation. Sybil has not only lifted weights but also lifted the hopes of many future athletes in the country.
