Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh has said that the coming hours will be very critical for the region as high-level peace talks between Iran and the United States are set to begin in Islamabad.
Khatibzadeh confirmed that Iran’s delegation will travel to Islamabad for the important negotiations. However, he made it clear that any final agreement depends on certain key conditions. He stressed that the United States must ensure an immediate end to Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
He warned that lasting peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved without stability in Lebanon. According to him, any comprehensive agreement must include the protection of Lebanon from further aggression.
The statement comes just days after a two-week ceasefire was announced between the US and Iran. The ceasefire has already faced challenges due to continued Israeli strikes on Lebanon, which Iran views as a serious violation.
Khatibzadeh’s remarks highlight Iran’s firm position ahead of the talks. Pakistan is playing a central role in hosting and mediating these negotiations, which are expected to start this weekend. The US delegation will be led by Vice President JD Vance.
The coming days are being seen as decisive for determining whether the temporary ceasefire can be turned into a lasting and broader peace agreement in the region.
