The Deadline For Meeting The 4MBPS Benchmark For 4G/LTE Has Been Extended By The PTA

PTA has announced changes to the Information Memorandum (IM) for the Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) spectrum auction, as well as a six-month grace period for meeting the throughput Key Performance Indicator (KPI) of 4Mbps.

According to sources, the criteria for 4G/LTE technologies was a 2Mbps average download data rate, which would be increased to 4Mbps in two years from the effective date, with an equivalent annual rise. At least 25% of download throughput will be used for uploading.

Following the second year after the effective date, a six-month grace period in meeting the throughput KPI of four Mbps would be given, according to the modification. This money shall be used by the licensee for testing and subsequent improvement as directed by the PTA.

The notification also stated that if the Pre-Bid Deposit is being paid from Pakistani sources, it should be done via wire transfer or RTGS into PTA’s account titled Pakistan Telecomm. Authority Fund A/C, Account No. 3000942222 (IBAN PK39NBPA2221003000942222) maintained with Corporate Branch, National Bank of Pakistan, Islamabad, with intimation to DG Licensing.

In extraordinary cases where the wire transfer/RTGS mechanism is unavailable, the pre-bid deposit can be made in the form of a demand draught or banker’s check drawn in the name of the PTA.
