Prior to Eid-ul-Adha, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other private airlines in the country increased their fares by up to 114 percent. Prior to the increase, passengers flying between Karachi and Islamabad or Lahore were charged Rs 7,000, according Pakistani sources. One-way plane tickets from Karachi to Lahore cost Rs 13,000, while two-way tickets between Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad cost Rs 25,000. The increase in fares ahead of Eid-ul-Adha would put even more strain on the country’s citizens, since growing inflation has already taken its toll and continues to do so.
