The PTA has mandated that all movies uploaded to the internet be filtered

On Thursday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to filter all films submitted on internet applications, including TikTok, correctly. The SHC issued these decisions in response to a lawsuit seeking to prohibit TikTok in Pakistan.

The court dismissed the case after finding that the plaintiff’s lawyer did not file the claim because he intended to pursue the legal remedies available to him in response to the PTA’s order of July 7, 2021.

The court, on the other hand, ordered the PTA to ensure that all videos uploaded to various internet applications, including TikTok, are properly filtered and removed as soon as possible so that people using mobile phones and other similar devices are not exposed to videos containing sexual harassment, abuse, anti-Pakistan, indecent, objectionable, or involving humiliation to any person, section, sector, etc.

The court ruled that it is the responsibility of the PTA authorities to ensure that videos of the above nature/category or similar nature are not uploaded, and if they are, that they are removed as soon as possible using techniques, and that those who upload such videos are apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law, rules, and regulations.
