This Flying Cycle, Built by a Group of Japanese Students can Fly Just by Pedaling

A team of students from Osaka Public University in Japan, led by Fusha Sakai, has developed an exceptional invention known as Tsurugi, which is essentially a flying bicycle. This innovation has gained widespread attention due to its extraordinary engineering and ingenuity, as reported by Super Car Blondie.

The Tsurugi bicycle represents a significant milestone in the realm of eco-friendly and sustainable aviation technologies. It operates by utilizing pedal power to propel itself into the air. Equipped with wings and a large fan for propulsion, this flying bicycle successfully completed its first test flight at the retired runway of Nanki Shirahama Airport.

In a video shared online, viewers witnessed the spectacle of a person pedalling through the air, covering a flight distance of 9 kilometres. This remarkable achievement quickly captured the fascination and excitement of people worldwide, sparking celebrations of its success across the internet.

The Sakai Windmill Association, led by Fusha Sakai, is a student-led group dedicated to the construction and operation of human-powered aircraft at Osaka Public University. Since its inception in 1994, the association has been actively involved in over 20 flights and has secured victory six times across two categories in various competitions. This demonstrates the remarkable passion, dedication, and skill of the students involved in pushing the boundaries of human-powered flight.

The Tsurugi project has garnered widespread attention globally, showcasing the potential for innovative solutions in sustainable transportation. While some critics have expressed concerns about the physical strain associated with constant pedalling, the accomplishment of sustained human-powered flight opens up new avenues for exploration, innovation, and advancement in transportation technology for the future.
