Users are spending more time on TikTok than on Facebook for the first time, According to data from a recent study on app use.
As per App Annie, time spent on TikTok has increased by 325 percent year over year, putting it ahead of Facebook in terms of monthly hours spent per user.
Nearly every app in every market is seeing an increase in average time spent, but few are seeing an increase as large as TikTok.
TikTok is among the top five apps in terms of time spent, and its growth rate over the past year has outpaced nearly every other app examined in the survey.
Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, and China’s WeChat are among the applications in the 1 billion MAU club on social media. TikTok is expected to land a spot among these apps before the end of the year, which is no small feat.
When it comes to sales, TikTok is in a league of its own, ranking as the second most popular non-gaming app. While several social media apps monetize via advertisements, TikTok does so while still allowing users to buy digital products.
To be sure, TikTok’s exponential growth will be one of the biggest social media trends in 2021.
