President Tayyip Erdogan suggested that Turks should preserve all of their money in lira and that recent exchange rate volatility was mostly under control after the lira fell dramatically in the previous two months.
“I want all my citizens to retain their savings in our money, to conduct all their businesses with our money, and I recommend this,” Erdogan stated in an Istanbul speech.
“Let us not forget: we are bound to sink as long as we do not use our own money as a standard. We shall proceed with the Turkish Lira as our currency. Not with this currency, not with another currency.”
