Elon Musk, the Executive Chair of Twitter, made an announcement about new restrictions on the number of tweets users can read per day. The purpose of these limitations is to discourage excessive data scraping and manipulation on the platform. Initially, verified accounts were allowed to view up to 6,000 posts per day, while unverified accounts had a limit of 600 posts. However, these limits have now been updated. Verified users can now read up to 10,000 posts per day, unverified users have a limit of 1,000 posts per day, and new unverified users are restricted to 500 posts per day.
Musk expressed concerns about organizations aggressively scraping data from Twitter, which can negatively affect the user experience. He believes that imposing these limitations will help address this issue. It is worth noting that Musk has previously expressed dissatisfaction with AI firms, including OpenAI, for using Twitter data to train their language models.
In addition to this announcement, Twitter recently experienced an outage that affected a significant number of users. Around 11:17 AM ET on Saturday morning, approximately 7,500 individuals reported issues accessing the app. This outage prompted Twitter to take various measures to regain advertisers who had left the platform under Musk’s ownership. One such measure is the introduction of verification check marks as part of the Twitter Blue subscription service.
These developments highlight Twitter’s efforts to address data scraping concerns and improve its services for users. The platform aims to enhance the user experience, attract advertisers, and generate revenue through subscriptions.
