Two universities in the UAE, Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi and United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in Al Ain, have been ranked among the top 300 in the world. The rankings were released by education analysts Quacquarelli Symonds for the year 2024.
Khalifa University secured the 230th position with a score of 41.6, while UAEU claimed the 290th spot with a total score of 35.9. Both universities were also listed among the top 300 in last year’s rankings, with Khalifa University ranking 181st and UAEU ranking 296th.
A re presentative of Khalifa university said:
“Our place as the top institution in the UAE in the QS World University Rankings 2024 demonstrates our consistent contribution to the objectives of the UAE in the education sector and other strategic economic areas.”
They further emphasized their commitment to creating intellectual capital, positioning themselves as a key contributor to the knowledge economy in the UAE and the region.
The top spot in the rankings was secured by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US with a perfect score of 100. The University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge in the UK, as well as Harvard University and Stanford University in the US, made up the rest of the top five.
The rankings considered various factors including academic and employer reputations, sustainability, and employment outcomes. In total, 1,500 universities across 104 different locations were evaluated.
Apart from Khalifa University and UAEU, four other UAE-based universities also gained positions within the top 600. American University Sharjah ranked 364th with a score of 30.3. The University of Sharjah claimed the 465th spot, scoring 24.7. Ajman University and Canadian University Dubai shared the joint 551st position with identical scores of 21.3. Abu Dhabi University secured the 580th place with a score of 20.4.
Professor Ghassan Aouad, the chancellor of Abu Dhabi University said:
