UAE has announced a major update to its visa system, introducing four new categories of visit visas along with revised rules for several existing permits. The changes are part of the UAE’s wider plan to welcome professionals, entrepreneurs and visitors from around the world especially in sectors like technology, tourism and culture.
According to the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, the new categories include:
- AI Specialist Visa: For experts in artificial intelligence, issued for single or multiple entries with a recommendation letter from a recognised technology institution.
- Entertainment Visa: A short-term permit for artists, performers, or others visiting the UAE for cultural and entertainment purposes.
- Event Visa: Granted to participants of festivals, exhibitions, conferences, religious events and sporting activities, provided they are sponsored by a hosting organisation.
- Tourist Cruise Visa: Designed for passengers arriving through cruise ships and pleasure boats, requiring detailed travel plans and a licensed tourism operator as guarantor.
Authorities say these reforms aim to make the UAE more attractive as a global hub while also boosting trade, transport and tourism. Additional updates cover truck drivers, business exploration visas and humanitarian cases, offering more flexibility to those who need special consideration.
Officials highlighted that the revised system is based on forward-looking studies and is meant to balance humanitarian concerns with economic growth. By making visas more diverse and accessible, the UAE hopes to strengthen its reputation as one of the world’s most welcoming destinations.
