After a six-month pilot program, British employers that were testing a four-day workweek largely elected to continue with it, which is seen as a breakthrough by advocates for a better work-life balance.
Between June and December 2022, employees at 61 businesses in Britain put in an average of 34 hours over four days while still receiving their regular pay.
Of them, 56 businesses, or 92 percent, chose to carry on in that manner; 18 of them did so permanently.
According to Autonomy, a British research organization that published the report with a group of academics and with support from the New Zealand-based nonprofit 4 Day Week Worldwide, the trial is the biggest in the world to date.
