UN Chief Urges Pakistan to Respect Rule of Law on Former PM Arrest

The leader of a political party in Pakistan, who used to be the country’s prime minister, was arrested. The head of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has spoken about this and asked the government to follow the correct legal steps. He also said that everyone should avoid using violence and respect the right to peaceful protests.

The United States has also said that Pakistan should follow democratic rules and the law.

The arrest happened because of a case involving a special place where valuable gifts are kept. The court said the leader did something wrong and gave a three-year prison sentence. This is expected to make the situation more tense because other political parties are saying this arrest is not fair and is being done for political reasons.
