US acknowledges Pakistan’s progress on FATF first action plan

On Monday, Spokesperson for the United States Department of State-Ned Price, while meeting a press conference in the country’s capital appreciated Pakistan and said Pakistan has gained generous progress on its first action plan of the worldwide money laundering & terrorist financing watchdog by tending 26 of the 27 action items.

The US urges the South Asian country to continue to work with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) & the international community to quickly finish the rest action item by showing that terrorism financing, investigations, & trials target senior leaders & commanders of UN-designated groups.

Previously in June, the worldwide watchdog had maintained Pakistan on its grey list for ‘failing to verify the money laundering, leading up to the terror financing’.

Indian External Affairs Minister- Jaishankar on Sunday, acknowledged the role of the Modi-government to guarantee that Pakistan stays on the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

“It was due to the Modi government’s efforts that Pakistan was retained on the FATF grey list”, said the Indian foreign minister.

He further added “We have been successful in pressuring Pakistan & fact that its behavior has changed is because of pressure put by India by various measures & PM’s personal efforts made at forums like G20 or G7 made nations realize that terrorism is everyone’s problem,”.

On Monday, Foreign Office stated that the comments made of Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar have uncovered the real colors of India & also justified Pakistan’s enduring attitude towards the India’s negative role in FATF.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi- Foreign Minister of Pakistan, in response to the Indian External Affairs Minister statement, said that proof of Indian state-sponsored terrorism disclosed by Islamabad the previous year again had been standing cleared after an investigation determined Lahore’s blast was planned by the intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
