According to Reuters, the US navy is attempting to recover an F-35C fighter plane that crashed landed on a US aircraft carrier (USS Carl Vinson) and sank to the bottom of the South China Sea.
Six sailors, as well as the pilot, were hurt. Before the incident, the latter ejected from his seat.
This is a major issue for the US because the jet contained highly classified technology that, if obtained by the Chinese first, would provide them with a significant intelligence advantage.
China, on the other hand, has declared that it has no interest in racing to recover the remnants of the stealth plane, which costs more than $100 million and is also the most advanced US fighter jet.
