Usman Bin Younos – Mechanical Engineer from Lahore has been appointed as the Region Leader for Asia Pacific by ASME

Usman Bin Younos a young mechanical engineer from Lahore has been by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Usman is the youngest ever to serve in such capacity as well as the only South Asian to ever lead in this role. The region includes 27 countries, namely Australia, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, India, Pakistan, South Korea, Russia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brunei, Fiji Islands, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Nepal, New Guinea, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and Georgia.

Usman is based in Lahore and is a graduate of the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore (UET Lahore). He comes from a family of engineers where all his siblings are Mechanical Engineers and his father a mining engineer. Usman has been dedicated with ASME for more than 15 years and has been instrumental in the growth and expansion of the society in the past years with a very diverse set of experiences. Usman is an entrepreneur, photographer, world traveler, animal enthusiast and loves building and flying model aircrafts.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers is one of the biggest engineering associations of the world and the largest Mechanical Engineering Society in the world with over 100,000 Members and a presence in 140 countries. Founded in 1880 as The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a nonprofit professional organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society. ASME codes and standards, publications, conferences, continuing education, and professional development programs provide a foundation for advancing technical knowledge and a safer world. ASME recently formed the International Society of Interdisciplinary Engineers (ISIE) LLC, a new for-profit subsidiary to house business ventures that will bring new and innovative products, services, and technologies to the engineering community.

Usman says it’s a tremendous responsibility to lead the largest region of the society which is very diverse in every sense of the word. It’s not an easy job to follow in the legacy of Thomas Edison, George Westinghouse, Henry Ford and the likes, who have all been ASME members. There is a huge potential and great opportunities in our region to serve the engineering community. His vision in this role is to help advance the engineering and scientific communities in the region to support mankind through technology, entrepreneurship & innovation. Engineers have a great responsibility to shape the future of our planet and engineers have been doing so for centuries. The world owes a great deal to the engineering profession in every aspect of life. Engineering advancements have made possible today with space travel, air travel, smartphones, communication, nanotechnology, robotics, medical devices, yet the effort to solve the challenges of mankind continues.
