Vada Pav, the famous street food of Mumbai. It has recently secured a spot on the list of the world’s best sandwiches.
According to Taste Atlas, a renowned food and travel guide platform, vada pav has claimed the 19th position among the top sandwiches for March 2024, alongside globally acclaimed favorites such as shawarma, Reuben, and lobster rolls.
The first place on the list has been awarded to Banh mi, a Vietnamese culinary delight.
Taste Atlas describes Vada Pav as an iconic street food that is said to have originated from a street vendor named Ashok Vaidya. He thought of a way to satiate hungry workers and concluded that the ideal dish should be portable, affordable, and easy to prepare.
The popularity of vada pav has grown over the years, and it has become a staple food for Mumbaikars. The dish comprises a soft, fluffy bread roll called pav stuffed with a deep-fried potato patty called vada and served with a variety of chutneys and spices. Its unique blend of flavors and textures has won the hearts of many food lovers, both in India and abroad.
