The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has again raised serious concerns about the safety of its national cricket team in India and confirmed that it will not send the squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup scheduled to begin on February 7. The board has clearly stated that player security remains its top priority.
BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul, along with other senior board members, met Sports Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the situation. After the meeting, Bulbul spoke to the media and explained the board’s position.
He said the BCB has formally written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to highlight security risks and to request action.
According to Bulbul, the board’s responsibility is not limited to the players alone. It also includes journalists, sponsors, team officials, and Bangladeshi supporters who travel with the team.
He added that international tours require approval from the government, and the board is waiting for clear guidance on this matter. Bulbul stressed that if security concerns remain unresolved, the BCB will continue to protect its rights and stand by its decision.
Sports Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul also addressed reporters and supported the board’s stance. He said that Bangladesh will not compromise on the safety of its players or on national dignity.
While expressing the country’s desire to take part in the World Cup, he made it clear that participation would only be possible if matches are moved to an alternative host country.
Dr. Nazrul stated that Sri Lanka is the only acceptable alternative venue for Bangladesh. He added that the government and the cricket board are united on this issue and will not change their position unless security concerns are fully addressed.
