What’s the World’s Flattest Rail Track Like?

One secret sauce of China’s prowess in high-speed railway lies in the tracks it runs on. With a precision margin of less than 0.5 mm—about the thickness of two sheets of A4 paper – they underpin the comfort and speed of the flashing trains.

In Baotou, northern China, lies the world’s first smart control rail production line built in cold rolling area. It’s also China’s largest rail production base—supplying nearly 40% of all rails used in China’s high-speed rail network.
And just recently, the base successfully produced high-speed rails designed for 460 km/h trains.

Every 3 minutes, a fresh steel beam is cooled, straightened, precisely cut to 100 meters using dynamic measurement tech, and lifted onto a crane.
