WhatsApp Vows to Disable Chats of Users Who Don’t Accept New Terms of Service

WhatsApp will turn off the messages options by May 15 for users who disagree to its updated terms and conditions.

Users who refuse to accept the instant-messaging application’s updated terms and service by May 15 will be unable to either send or receive messages, stated the website.

The website further stated that accounts which are deactivated for a period of 120 days can be deleted.

According to the tech website, WhatsApp will continue to allow the user (who still has to accept the new terms of service) to avail the call and notifications functions for a short period of time after the deadline passes, possibly “a few weeks”.

When WhatsApp announced it’s latest updates of terms and conditions in January, where the details and data of the user can be shared with facebook, it caused a hue and cry. Thousands of people switched to other alternative messaging app like Telegram and Signal.

However, WhatsApp later clarified that it cannot read or listen to a user’s chat and the aim of the update was to allow payments to other businesses.
