Karachi: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon has admitted that stolen or snatched mobile phones are being refreshed.
He said that several groups are working in the city to smuggle stolen and snatched mobile phones from Pakistan to neighboring countries.
Millions of stolen and snatched mobile phones from Karachi are smuggled to other countries including Afghanistan every year.
Every year in Karachi, mobile phones of more than 50,000 citizens are stolen or snatched, some mobiles are re-packed and sold here and the rest are smuggled.
There is no street in Karachi where you can use a mobile phone without fear. Mobile phones have been snatched from 11,500 citizens in The City of Quaid this year, while more than 28,000 people lost their mobile phones last year.
Their IMEI number is changed, then it is decided that the mobile should be sold here again after repackaging or smuggled abroad.
So far, millions of mobile phones have been smuggled from the city of Quaid to neighboring countries, but no action has been taken to break this smuggling network.
