The strange wrinkly skin, when in water, exhibits a supporting biological phenomenon behind it.
According to speculations by researchers, skin wrinkles formed when someone stays in the water for a significant time is the body’s system to cope with the slippery conditions. The wrinkles in the skin of hands and feet provide a grip, a measure of safety developed by human bodies.
Another research explains that when a person spends a long time in a bathtub, the dead keratin cells absorb water causing the surface area of the skin to swell. As the outer layer of skin is tightly attached to the living tissues, the outer layers wrinkle out to compensate for the increased surface area.
