Will new currency notes be issued on Eid or not?

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has firmly dismissed recent rumors suggesting that new currency notes would not be issued this year. In an official statement, the central bank clarified that these reports are entirely unfounded and reassured the public that the longstanding tradition of issuing new banknotes during the Eid-ul-Fitr season will continue without interruption.

According to the SBP, commercial banks will follow their regular annual practice of releasing fresh currency notes to coincide with Eid-ul-Fitr 2025. The bank emphasized that its commitment to ensuring a seamless supply of new banknotes is unwavering, especially during the peak period of religious festivities when public demand for cash is traditionally high.

In preparation for the festive season, the SBP has already distributed new currency notes worth Rs. 27 billion to 17,000 branches of commercial banks across the country during the holy month of Ramadan. This proactive measure is designed to ensure that all denominations of the new notes are readily available to meet the needs of the public.

The State Bank’s efforts extend beyond merely distributing the new notes. To further facilitate easy access, the commercial banks’ branch networks and ATM systems will continue to operate without any disruptions during the festival. The SBP has also deployed specialized cash monitoring teams across all commercial bank branches to oversee the distribution process, ensuring that the fresh currency notes reach every corner of the nation in pristine condition.

In its statement, the central bank reiterated that these initiatives are part of its broader strategy to maintain public confidence in the nation’s monetary system. The SBP’s swift clarification was intended to dispel any uncertainties and to reassure citizens that the traditional practice of issuing new banknotes during Eid-ul-Fitr is not only intact but is also being managed with enhanced diligence.

The response from the State Bank underscores its ongoing commitment to supporting the financial infrastructure of Pakistan by ensuring that the distribution of new currency is efficient and accessible. This careful coordination between the central bank and commercial banks highlights the robust mechanisms in place to meet the increased demand for cash during the festive season, thereby reinforcing the stability and reliability of the nation’s financial system.

With all measures in place, the SBP is confident that the public will continue to receive high-quality, new banknotes without any inconvenience, further solidifying the trust between the central bank, commercial banks, and the citizens of Pakistan.
