Wisden Ranks Babar Azam’s 196 Among the Best 4th Innings Efforts in 21st Century

Babar Azam’s match-saving and record-breaking 196 against Australia in the last innings of the second Test in Karachi was recently praised by Wisden as one of the best fourth innings batting displays this century.

Azam’s 10-hour stay on the pitch was placed third among the top ten match-saving fourth-inning efforts in the twenty-first century, according to the report.

The report further stated that the Pakistan skipper lived up to his reputation when his team needed him most, “piled misery” on the Australian team to boost Pakistan’s chances of winning.

“After being assigned a goal of 506, the hosts were put under immense pressure in the second innings after being bowled out for 148 in the first innings. All of this didn’t appear to bother Babar, who hit an all-time amazing knock,” according to the report.

However, Azam had came in to bat when the side was reeling at 21 for 2. He and Abdullah Shafique had put on an incredible 228-run third-wicket stand, but he did not flinch when the young’un fell short of his century.
